Using the mulitimeter to test wires and curcuit swicths

This topic will be about using the muiltimeter to test swicths and wires.

First we can use a USB cable as our testing subject, to do this we will have to plug our cable/wire into a power supply then we would get our muilitmeter we would have to frist insert the probes into the ports the red probes into the VM and the black into the COM.

Once  we set our muilitimeter to its correct setting we can begin testing also always ensure that the multimeter is on the highest level of resistance. the probes must be placed at either end inside of the USB cable the middle plug would signify the grounds of the cable thus both ends will be tested. while testing the cable/wire ensure that your fingers are not touching the metal part of the probes imagine holding a pencil in a fancy manner.  if the reading is fluctuating  and will not keep a steady reading chances are that their is a storage in the cable and usually the problem is at the end.

for testing a switch

First you must insert the black test lead into the COM jack. Then insert the red lead into the V Ω jack. When that is finished, remove the leads in reverse order: red first, then black. With the circuit de-energized, connect the test leads across the component being tested. Please Note that the component may need to be isolated from other components in the circuit. The digital multimeter (DMM) beeps if is then it is working. If the circuit is open , the DMM will not beep.
